The Altar at Easter
The New Altarpiece
The new altarpiece is the work of a parishioner, Christine Jordan, who paints on her lunch hour and in her spare time.  The central canvas has been hung over the altar (unframed) for the last two years.  What is new now is the addition of the frame, and with the frame, the smaller panels on either side of the Crucifixion.  These side panels will change with the Church's seasons.  The current Paschaltide set includes scenes of the resurrection, Mary Magdalene's encounter with the risen Lord, the two disciples recognizing Jesus in the breaking of bread in Emmaus, Jesus' appearance to the disciples on Easter night, "doubting" Thomas confessing "My Lord and my God," the (second) great catch of fish, the Ascension and Pentecost.  The next set will appear on Trinity Sunday.
In addition to our profound gratitude to Mrs Jordan for the artwork, we are also grateful to the donors who contributed to the cost of the frame, and to Davis d'Ambly, the Philadelphia ecclesiastical artist and designer, who contributed his talents in designing the frame for us.
