St Michael the Archangel is a traditional Anglican church for the Philadelphia area. Our aim is to glorify God by maintaining and practicing the ancient catholic and apostolic faith in the Anglican tradition. We believe that Jesus is the incarnate Son of God who died for our sins, and through whom we are reconciled to God and offered a place in heaven. We regard Scripture as God's word, containing all things necessary to salvation.

In the midst of the confusion in the world and in the Church today, Saint Michael's tries to help people come to God with all the assistance of the rich tradition of the Anglo-Catholic movement. The faith which has been handed down to us from the apostles is a priceless treasure. We are determined to uphold it, practice it as best we can, and pass it unimpaired to our children.
Our worship is Eucharistic and centered at the altar. Using traditional Anglican forms, our worship has formality as well as intimacy, times of quiet as well as praise. We use the 1928 Book of Common Prayer and the Hymnal 1940. St Michael's is a parish of the Pro-Diocese of the Holy Family of the Anglican Church in America.  As a part of the Pro-Diocese of the Holy Family, St Michael's is planning to seek a place in the Anglican Ordinariate in communion with the Roman Catholic Church.

Saint Michael's is a small parish, which means that every member is a vital part of our fellowship. Everyone has the opportunity and is encouraged to participate in the activities of the parish. A full round of activities in worship, education, service, and fellowship is available.

- Prominent among these is the long-standing Wednesday morning Bible Study, which follows the ten o’clock Wednesday Mass at the rectory.

- A Healing Service is offered in conjunction with the Mass on most Wednesdays.

- Other adult classes meet from time to time, usually on a weeknight. These include the Rector's Inquirers’ Class (a general introduction to the Anglican way of being Christian and is designed to allow for all those questions you’ve never had the opportunity to ask) and the “School of Religion” which covers different topics each class.

-The children's Sunday School meets after the ten o'clock Mass at Ivy Hall.

- The parish runs an after-school tutoring program in North Philadelphia, the Homework Club. This is staffed with volunteers from the parish.

- Times for sacramental confession are made available (Sundays at 9:30) and set apart so that the great privilege of absolution may be sought.

The parish is both old and new. It began in 1846 as the Church of St James the Less in East Falls. In 2006, it became the Church of St Michael the Archangel, when it left the St James property for its current location. Click here for details.

St Michael the Archangel welcomes newcomers and visitors. Come and see if this is the parish for you. Visitors and others interested in the parish are encouraged to speak with the priest or any member concerning their interest or to call the parish office at 215-247-1092.

Through the Prayer Box Ministry, the people of St Michael's offer to pray for those with needs. Prayer boxes are located in shops and public places in the area where anyone can put in a request. The requests are collected weekly for the parish volunteers, and to be remembered at the altar. Prayer requests may also be sent to the Prayer Box Ministry by clicking here. For further information, visit the Prayer Box Ministry web site.
